On Christmas Eve, six carolers from Salvation Church rang the doorbell of a typical high-rise apartment house. An elderly woman appeared on the threshold. With glowing eyes, she invited the young people into her tidy living room. On the couch they saw a sick man who had not been able to move for over 20 years because of a terrible disease. With embarrassed faces they performed a few Christmas carols and wished the man a Merry Christmas.

It is hard to convey the great joy that shone like brilliant lights in the eyes of the paralytic. Within a few minutes he managed to get acquainted with each caroler. He was sure that on the popular show "X - Factor" the carolers would get the grand prize. Mother and son invited the young people to visit them every holiday. It was immediately apparent that these people needed friends and that they were willing to listen to and, perhaps, receive the Gospel. It was not for nothing that God sent the carolers to precisely that apartment …

This is just one example of what God did through the Christmas carolers. The members of the small groups from Salvation Church who participated in this evangelistic effort on January 6, 2014 told of tears in the eyes of lonely elderly people and about the surprise of the young people who happened to be out smoking on the landing, but on hearing the magical singing, stayed and expressed genuine interest in the church. There were also disgruntled mutterings behind closed doors, direct insults and demonstrative disinterest. And there were also wet clothes and muddy shoes, frozen hands and tired feet ... But sweet treats and hot tea, sincere testimony and spiritual unity - are a worthy reward for anyone who did not spare himself, but boldly proclaimed the gospel to the hospitable Poltavans.

Believers should wisely use the opportunities for evangelism during the Christian holiday of Christmas, for it is at this hour, like no other, that Ukrainians are open to God's Word. Let's not allow the sin of silence stop us at a time when everything around us heralds the birth of the Savior Jesus! We'll see you in 2015 …
