That You May Grow in Faith |
September 15 was the end of summer vacation from Sunday School at Salvation Church, not only for children but now also for adults. As Vissarion Belinsky wrote: "All human progress, the achievements in the sciences and philosophy, are only meaningful in the context of greater penetration into the mysterious depths of the divine book - the Bible." And that is exactly what the members of Salvation Church intend to do in the new school year: deepen their understanding of the Bible.  There were only eighteen in attendance, but a warm family atmosphere prevailed at the first meeting of the Salvation Church Bible School. The participants shared their vision of the next meeting and came to the conclusion that the training should be not so much lectures, but less structured with opportunities for student discussion. To support this the students will be divided into groups of a few people each, thus helping students to develop a greater sense of individual responsibility in relation to the learning process. The first topic was very relevant, as far as the participants were concerned: "Live in accordance to who you are in Christ." We discussed the vital question: "What does it mean in practical terms to live in Christ?". The participants talked about how in life we are completely dependent on Jesus Christ, and only the Lord can give us the necessary strength to bring forth good fruit. In this new school year our plan is to continue to study the Salvation Church doctrinal position: at the moment we studying sanctification, and with God's help we will go even further. Those people who for some reason can't attend home Bible study groups during the week now have the opportunity to attend Bible study just before the Sunday service. And even those who attend a home Bible study group should not miss the opportunity to further deepen their biblical knowledge. Sanctification can not occur without direct instruction. How can we say that we are disciples of Jesus Christ if we do not want to learn? The Salvation Church Bible School offers other advantages, too. For members of Salvation Church the discussions are a great opportunity to get to know each other better; we can discuss pressing problems and, most importantly, get trustworthy answers. And questions are one thing each of us has more than enough of. So feel free to bring them with you to Salvation Church Bible School! Most importantly, by attending classes we will: grow spiritually, become more firm in our convictions, form a correct Christian worldview and learn wisdom and confidence to preach the Word of God to those around us. In a word - we become like Jesus Christ. Ira Kovalenko |
