Help for Work with Orphans |
Starting in 2006, the women of Salvation Church began to visit the children in orphanages. Now the ministry has started to pick up speed; a few young men and women among the youth of the church have joined. They believe that Christians are called to manifest God's love to orphans. But working with so many children requires not only love and a desire to help, but skills and understanding of the specifics of working children in orphanages. Â God always blesses those who serve in His harvest. This time help came in the form of workers from the "One Hope" ministry. Two women from Kiev, Nadezhda Kondratyuk and Tatyana Koval, both of whom have lots of experience in this area, taught a class from January 30th to February 2nd for orphanage workers from different churches. The title of the class was "Building life skills in institutionalized orphans and abandoned children." Oksana Varyanitsa shared her thoughts on the training: "These classes helped me get past the fear of working with parentless children. I came to understand that the sometimes irrational backlash of orphans who reach adolescence was due to their past experiences. This behavior should not come as a shock, but rather should encourage us to understand. We may not be able to change their personalities, but we can always be friends." Tanya Varyanitsa |
