Christmas Angels in Zavorskla |
The night before Christmas was unusually "Christmasy" in the sense that it did not rain, and there was even snow that crunched underfoot. Tall birch trees covered with thick white frost looked like crystal against a black sky generously sown with stars! The Ukrainian cottages were deep in thought about whether anything special might happen on this quiet Christmas Eve in the small village of Zavorsklo nestled on the edge of a pine forest in Poltava. And then, at exactly 18:01 Kiev time the evening silence was broken by the enchanting sound of singing: "Good evening to you; joyous news - the Virgin has borne her wise Son ...", and after the singing came exclamations: "Wonderful news from Bethlehem, the Virgin has borne her wise son! Rejoice! Let all the Earth rejoice, God's Son is born". Christmas angels, for that is what this group of believers from Salvation Church was to the residents, moved from one house to the next, proclaiming the birth of the Savior of the World to everyone they met! Time passed quickly, and when the Christmas messengers said goodbye to the 30th family who invited them into their house, everyone finally felt the cold, and they decided to go directly to get warm with hot tea and Christmas cakes, with which the welcoming villagers of Zavorsklo generously blessed the Christmas messengers. Thus, on this Christmas night of January 6, 2013, the words of the angels rang out again, this time to the Ukrainian people, "Fear not! I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people, for today is born to you a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Andre Khudyakov |
