Waiting for Doomsday |
While the world anxiously awaits the sudden demise of humanity, the pastors of the Baptist Churches of the Poltava region decided to take advantage of the general excitement and gave the regional youth conference an apocalyptic theme.     For two days (11/30 - 12/1), the conference attandees, numbering well over 200, enthusiastically studied the Bible's chronology of the last days and other topics. Their leaders in this study were Valery Antonuk, Radislav Tsurkan, Oles Dmytrenko, Alexander Tretinko and Leonid Serebryakov. Valery expressed the sincere hope that everyone present, as they discussed the second coming of Jesus Christ, will be thinking about themselves, what feelings fill their hearts while waiting for the Messiah, "perhaps genuine joy, or perhaps fear... " The conference organizers hope that this topic of current interest will ignite the heart of contemporary Christian youth and awaken a desire to be more zealous in service and more holy in the lives they live. In addition to the above keynote event, the young people had the opportunity to attend some of the accompanying workshops where the questions discussed included missionary activity among young people, Christian positions on social issues and of course, the most popular: relationships. The worship team from Calvary Chapel in Kiev provided wonderful, professionally performed music. Events of this magnitude are usually held in our region two times a year. In autumn and winter, young people gather in Poltava, and in the spring and summer, the hospitable believers of Kremenchug welcome them. Tatyana Varyanitsa  |
