On the first of July on the banks of the Vorskla river Salvation Church held its latest baptismal service. This may sound a little on the formal side, but for us it is a truly notable and important occasion. Every time a believer makes a promise to God to serve Him in good conscience, the Heavens rejoice and God is glorified in His omnipotence, power and love. Only the Holy Spirit can inspire a person to take this step - to dedicate his life to the Unseen God. And there were 11 such believers in Salvation Church.

This time there were a great many recreational bathers at the beach during the baptismal service. A hot day was forecast and as likely as not they decided to start the day with some water and sun. And what do you know! There was some protestant church (ours) doing baptisms. The reactions of the observing Poltavans were varied. Some heard the entire service, but continued sunbathing, pretending complete disinterest in what was going on nearby. Others took a lively interest in the service and ritual of baptism. As always, casual boaters on the Vorskla river "happened" to pass through the exact place where we were doing the baptisms. At Salvation church we have gotten used to this. We are happy that people are showing interest. We hope that with God's blessing that interest will grow into spiritual yearning and that it will bring new believers into the church.
