For most Poltava residents winter is associated with snow, sledding, holidays and ... sorry, I forgot to mention colds and other maladies. Yes, against the backdrop of pre-New Year tinsel, no less important is people's concern for their health. Caring mothers remember grandmother's old remedies, schools everywhere announce guidelines for sick students and garlic becomes the main ingredient in almost every dish.

In order to help address these worries, concerned Christians from churches in the Poltava region (Born Again Church, Salvation Church, Hope Church, and New Hope Church of Kremenchug) decided to provide medical aid to the city of Poltava. Over the past two Saturdays at the Christian Ministry Center local Christian medical practitioners conducted free medical clinics offering checks of blood pressure and glucose levels, consultation with a family physician, and treatment by a physical therapist. During the course of their visit every patient had an opportunity to talk with Christian volunteers and learn about the One who can heal not only the body but the soul.

In total approximately 54 residents of our city visited the clinic.  Though the organizers hoped for more visitors, it is too early to pass judgement on the success of the effort, since this is the first time that local doctors have organized this type of clinic without outside help. An effort that provided help to more than 50 of our fellow citizens is certainly not a failure.

According to comments left by grateful visitors the service was quite satisfactory. Therefore let us hope that God will use the conversations with our medical professionals and volunteers to heal not only the bodies but also the souls of the visitors.
